Rhinoplasty Q & A

What is rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, more commonly known as a nose job or nasal surgery, corrects a variety of cosmetic and structural issues. Rhinoplasty enhances your appearance and can allow you to breathe more easily, too. Dr. Srour performs rhinoplasty while you’re under general anesthetic, so you’re asleep and comfortable during the procedure.

He typically makes incisions inside your nose, so you don’t have any visible scars. Surgery often takes 60-90 minutes, depending on your procedure. You can usually go home shortly after surgery to recover comfortably.

What is alloplasty?

Alloplasty is the use of implants to enhance the shape of your nose. If you don’t have enough cartilage to get your desired look, Dr. Srour may recommend using a silicone implant as part of your nasal surgery. Alloplasty is commonly part of rhinoplasty for people of Asian descent.

Is rhinoplasty right for me?

If you’re unhappy with the size and shape of your nose, or you have trouble breathing through your nose, rhinoplasty may be a good solution. It permanently changes the appearance of your nose. Nasal surgery can reduce or eliminate a nasal hump, refine the tip of your nose, or correct asymmetries in the structure of your nose.

You should be at least 15 or 16 years old if you’re a woman, and potentially a few years older for young men, after your nose has stopped growing. Everyone develops differently, so Dr. Srour can recommend a good time to proceed. He routinely performs rhinoplasty on patients in their teens all the way through their 60s.

As long as you’re in good overall health, you have a desire to improve your self-confidence, and you have realistic expectations of the results, rhinoplasty may be right for you.

How long does it take to recover from nasal surgery?

Typical recovery time after rhinoplasty takes 6-9 months. Most of the swelling and bruising subsides after about a week when Dr. Srour removes the splint from your nose. At that time, you can usually resume your daily activities, but you need to avoid strenuous activity for several weeks.

You won’t be able to wear eyeglasses immediately after surgery, so you don’t put pressure on your nose as it heals.

If you’re ready to enhance your facial features, or refine a nose you’re not 100% happy with, contact Doheny Sunset Surgery Center, Inc. to schedule a rhinoplasty consultation, or use the convenient online booking system to request an appointment.
