It is not our intention nor is it possible to present a detailed exposé of all cosmetic surgery procedures and techniques in a publication of this size. Unlike any other plastic surgery pamphlet, I have incorporated some of my artistic creations in my attempt to discuss various cosmetic surgery procedures. The information presented in this booklet is intended to shed some light on the most common cosmetic procedures performed.

No part of it should be construed as a suggestion of warranty or guarantee in any one situation. While new techniques and developments are common, like in other scientific fields, the fundamental concepts do not change. It is most important to bear in mind that those who expect miracles or magic from plastic  surgery risk disappointment. Those who expect more realistic results would be most satisfied. The ability of different individuals to heal, their health, hormonal and genetic factors and more importantly their proper adherence to the post-operative instructions given to them, are among many variables contributing to the end result.

This is where the artistic talent of a plastic surgeon would enable him to be bold enough to create a noticeable change but conservative enough so as not to deprive a patient of his or her personality traits or ethnic look. Labeling aesthetic plastic surgery as vanity surgery is a thing of the past. In the last decade there has been an explosion in the demand for cosmetic surgery. Certainly the media exposure, the youth culture, the emphasis on beauty promulgated by the cosmetic and fashion industries and most important perhaps is a more educated public, are among many reasons that have contributed to this boom. Psychologically cosmetic surgery gives patients a powerful boost in confidence. They look better, feel better and perform better.

 In examining a patient seeking cosmetic surgery, I attempt to visualize the result as I am looking at the problem, keeping into perspective that the problematic area is part of the whole body. As in the creation of a painting, harmony and balance are the ultimate result but unlike a painting a patient will give you her or his opinion of that result. When this opinion is positive it is a great satisfaction to know I have contributed to the patient's new image and well being.
